SUMMARY:FRIEDRICHSHAFEN, GERMANY – SHEKU – ORCHESTRAL
DESCRIPTION:PERFORMERS\nSheku Kanneh-Mason, cello\nLondon Philharmonic Orchestra\nEdward Gardner, conductor\nPROGRAMME\nBloch: Schelomo – Hebrew Rhapsody for Cello and Orchestra\nVENUE NOTE\nA single performance made Sheku Kanneh-Mason known to an audience of billions: since the royal wedding of Meghan and Harry in 2018, a real hype has arisen around him. But behind this popularity lies a serious artist with depth and character, who has long since made a career of himself with the world’s major orchestras. In Friedrichshafen he will be accompanied by the London Philharmonic Orchestra (LPO). Since its founding in 1932 the LPO has been celebrated internationally as one of the great orchestras. “Our aim is to let the modern world share in wonder through the power of orchestral music,” is their mission. And it seems to be working: The LPO is one of the most streamed orchestras worldwide; everyone knows and listens to it – thanks in part to the countless film soundtracks to blockbusters like “Lord of the Rings.”\nThis evening’s program combines three very different works, each of which combines grand orchestral gestures with personal expressive depth in its own unique way. We can certainly look forward to Bloch’s “Schelomo”: The cello speaks here as the voice of King Solomon – full of dignity, doubt, lament, and vision.\n
